Introduction to Wartsila – Part B Type Specific Platinum DP Systems.

This document covers the Wartsila Platinum DP system training course conducted by Tidewater DPEC & Nautica Training and Assessment Center Manila

1/ This document can only be used for a course run by the above Tidewater DPEC & Nautica Training and Assessment Center in Manila.

2/ The Wartsila Part B type Specific can only be run as a combined course of Part A and Part B of the Nautical Institute course “DP Knowledge for Technical staff”

3/ The participant must have passed the Nautical Institute online Exam for part A before completing the Part B

4/ Only Wartsila approved PowerPoints to be used.

5/ Only Wartsila Instructor to be used.

 

Annex 2 – Type Specific Hardware/Ship Specific Training

Minimum Entry Qualification Requirements

Participants shall have completed the Nautical Institute DP Knowledge for Technical staff Part A in the same week at the Tidewater DPCE and Nautica Training and Assessment center in Manila.

Type Specific hardware / Ship specific training – Recommend Course outline

The NI recommends Type Specific DP Hardware Training content to be setup by the equipment manufacturer. The following should be used as a guide for setting up Type Specific training:

Overview of DP hardware layout (DP console, DP computer, DP controller, remote joystick panel, UPS, sensors, PRS, printer… etc.) – Completed in Part A

Identify every element of DP hardware (equipment, component and sub-component), installation location and specific PRS blind spots or shadow – Completed in Part A

Detail understand the basic function of each DP hardware and component of the Platinum DP system. – Extra for Part B

Arrangement for the types of thrusters and rudder system on board, interface type and their possible failures on electrical, control, mechanical and hydraulic and how different failures can result in drive-off or drift-off – Completed in Part A

Arrangements for shaft generator, aux generator and switchboard arrangement on board for DP operation – Completed in Part A with case studies of Collard Tide which is fitted with Platinum DP System

Identify and understand manufacturer instruction manual for hardware and component – Part B and documents from Collard Tide.

Interpret and proper use of cable layout, cable details, IO specification, and identify types of power input and power redundancy – Part B

Identify types of interface in use for sensors, PRS, thrusters, switchboard etc. (serial, NMEA, digital, Analog and Ethernet) – Completed in Part A

Alarms, shut-downs and interlock arrangements – Part B

Identify worst case failure and understand failure effect and corrective measures – Completed in Part A

Use of proper tools, safe and non-intrusive troubleshooting on a failure of equipment, component and interface, and when you should not go further – Part B

Fault identification – Part A and Part B

Reporting of failure and troubleshooting result or finding – Part B

Maintenance measures – Preventive, Predictive, periodic and Corrective – Part A & B

Basic spare parts inventory, inspection, storage and maintenance – Part A & Part B

Use of spare parts and components – Part B

Communication arrangements for technical support – remote diagnostics/email address – Part B

Engineer’s role in an annual survey – to know all information of vessel prior to a survey – Part A

Course Assessment

Course assessment is a practical assessment – TBA after completing.

Simulator Equipment Required

1 x Complete Platinum SPU with all component normal fitted to vessel
1 x “B” class simulator.
